What to Wear for 1812: Clothing Workshop

With the War of 1812 Bicentennial drawing near, do you know what you’ll be wearing? Surely, with all the re-enactments, period balls, and now the Canada Day celebrations on Parliament Hill, you’ll want to look the part.

A group of Regency fashion-savvy women have come together help you select the perfect outfit. 

Join three reenactors and history fans for an information session on dressing the part in Regency Upper Canada: Mardi MacFarlane of the Canadian Fencibles & Civilians in the Midst of Alarums; Sharon Miller of the The Seamstress Miller; and Alicia Wanless, Bicentennial Manager with the St. Lawrence War of 1812 Bicentennial Alliance.

The session will set the stage for creating costumes from scratch, piecing together outfits from consignment finds, and renting clothes. Topics will include: Historic fabrics; Clothing components for both men and women; Patterns, including reviews of how they worked; Show & Tell of existing costumes

This clothing information session will be held on Saturday, January 28th from 1-4 PM at Dreams in Motion, 365 William Street South in Gananoque. Please contact 613-924-6090 for more information.

The cost is $2 per person. Tea and coffee will be served.

Throughout 2012 to 2015, the St. Lawrence region will host many exciting events – including a special commemoration of the declaration of war on June 18 at the new Joel Stone Heritage Park and an Attack on Gananoque August 24-26, 2012.
