Are you the sort of person who just doesn’t feel fulfilled unless working towards a greater goal? The War of 1812 Bicentennial even has activities worthy of your admirable ambitions!
A group of concerned citizens has been actively campaigning to have the Canadian government honour War of 1812 heroes. Honour Our 1812 Heroes, championed by Donald Graves and other 1812 heavyweights, is seeking public support for their initiative.
Below are four ways you can help the cause:
- Write to the Minister of National Defence: Send the Minister a note and tell him to honour our War of 1812 heroes.
- Spread the Word: If you are a seasoned campaigner with media savvy, consider taking up this message and sharing it far and wide: “Don’t all Canadian war veterans deserve to be honoured? Award Battle Honours to Canadian units that fought in the War of 1812 and those units of the modern army that perpetuate them.” You could even post it as a Facebook update adding a link to the Honour Our 1812 Heroes website.
- Share Information: A newsletter outlining the issue was recently released to help support the cause. The Battle Honour Bulletin outlines the issue, explaining how the Department of Defence could address the problem. Download a copy and share it with your contacts. Information is power!
- Post this video: While everyone might not take the time to read a newsletter, most people will watch a 60-second video. Share this cartoon with your contacts, via email or social media, to simply explain the issue around Battle Honours.
