EMC News – As Gananoque heads into its exciting celebrations for the bicentennial of the War of 1812, the town has decided to gear up with a new logo for use during the year.
“It was our wish that anyone who can make use of this logo on product for their retail outlet would please do so,” says Linda Mainse, Chair of the Bicentennial Steering Committee. “This logo is unique to Gananoque and (everyone is) welcome to use it to promote the rich heritage of our community during the Bicentennial of the War of 1812.”
Designed by Pam Staples specifically for the event, it features a crest superimposed over the Union Jack, and the words “Gananoque, Ontario, Canada: Where It All Began” with the dates 1812 – 2012.
“This is the Official Logo for Gananoque for 2012,” says Mainse. “The purpose in its creation was to develop a uniquely Gananoque brand for 2012 that could be placed on all manner of products from sweatshirts to key fobs.”
The committee encourages all people in Gananoque to use the logo to help promote the town. Whether school children doing a special project, local business people creating promotional products to sell in their stores or to incorporate into their advertising, or anyone who wishes to show off their pride in Gananoque during this bicentennial year, the logo is free for use.
The town is looking forward to a fantastic year filled with exciting events. From the official opening and flag raising at the Joel Stone Heritage Park on June 18, 2012, through various re-enactments, period appropriate theatre, and other activities, the sky is the limit in bringing this vital part of Canada’s history and origin to life. The first shot of the war was fired in Gananoque, and became the turning point in making Canada what it is today.
